Patrick Mung Mung Jarlarloo Country 2003
Natural ochre & pigment on canvas 800 x 600mm SOLD
Jarlarlu Country (Ord River Country) is Patrick's father's and mother's country. It lies south of Warmun and north
of Purnululu (Bungle Bungles). Patrick knows this country inside out, as he walked and mustered cattle all
throughout this country with his father, George Mung Mung. In the foreground of the painting is where Jarlarloo
(corkwood) trees grow. Corkwood trees are good for making coolamon. Also shown in this painting are
doorawoolji (rocks) by the river. Jarlarloo is the Gija name for the Ord River, where is runs into Stony Creek.
Patrick says "There are a lot of doworrolji in this country" - doworrolji are rocks heaped into ridges. SOLD
