Dingo Dreaming
"Long time ago in the Ngarangkarni, a lot of aboriginal people used to go hunting and they only had one dingo. They used to take the dingo hunting everywhere. They were all hungry for beef. When the dingo went out hunting, it would kill a lot of kangaroos. The people would collect all the kangaroos and go home. Then they would make a big fire and cook all the kangaroos and have a big feed. But the dingo who killed all the kangaroos wasn't invited to have any of the kangaroo. The mob starved the dingo. They didn't even give the left over to the dingo, they threw all the left over meat into the fire. Poor dingo, they didn't give him any tucker. He asked around for food, but they didn't give him nothing, nothing!. When all the aboriginal men were full, they sat around the fire, so the dingo took a 'sulk' and walked away from them. One lady started looking for the dingo, but she didn't know where the dingo went. She called and called, but the dingo didn't listen to her. The dingo broke off his tail and wore his tail at the front like a cock rag and walked back into the camp. He had turned into a man-dog. He asked all that mob, "Why did you mob finish all that meat in front of me and not give me any, when I was the one who killed all that meat?"The old lady tried to stop the dingo from arguing but it was too late, because all the men were turned to stone". |
