The Power of the Kimberley: Warmun

AM 300/02 Beerbee Mungnari Captain Gap - Rosewood Station 2002
Natural ochre & pigment on canvas 80 x 60 cm SOLD

In the foreground of this painting is Captain Yard, on Rosewood Station Country, which is located to the north east of Warmun Community. This station crosses over the Northern Territory border. It was here that Beerbee spent much of his time as a stockman during the 40s- 60s. In 1946 a film was made about the old people living on Rosewood. Beerbee featured in this documentary. There is plenty of good green country here for grazing cattle. To the right of the main hill in this painting is a large spring called Captain Spring.  The spring flows back towards Captain Gap, which you can see in this painting ( the gap is located at the junction of the large red hill and the smaller brown hill behind it). Through Captain Gap you get to a spring called Boxer Spring.  From Boxer Spring cattle were brought from Waterloo station which is located behind this hill.
