Jewess James Kulyayi 2004
Acrylic & ochres on canvas 830 x 1170mm $1400
Jewess has painted the main waterholes in her Mother’s country Kulyayi. Kulyayi is my Mother’s country. My
country. This is an aerial view of this country, the circle is the waterhole, it is important to know where there is
water without this knowledge you would not survive in the desert. To indigenous Australians the term country also
means the spirit that resides in the land as well as the land itself. The long line is a sandhill that is beside this
waterhole.
