This painting depicts a Tingari story which usually refers to groups of men and women traveling throughout the
land and performing ceremonies. The men are usually given greater emphasis. Whilst they are traveling these
men and women perform different ceremonies and while carrying out various other deeds they create or modify
features in the landscape.

Timmy Payungka was born c 1942 -2000. Timmy was among the first group of Pintupi to be brought in to the
newly established settlement of Papunya in the 60’s. He was part of the original group of painters at Papunya in
1971. In later years he lived at Kintore and then further west to Kiwirrkura in the mid 80’s. In his later years he
lived in Alice Springs. Timmy also painted Dancing Women, Dingo, Snake and Water Dreaming. His work
featured in the ‘Dreamings’ exhibition which toured the USA in 1988-9. Collections: Holmes a Court, Australian
Museum, National Gallery of Victoria, Museums and Art Galleries of NT, and SA Museum.
