Poly Ngala Bush Plum 2004
Acrylic on linen 1500 x 1210mm $11000
Painted in 2004, Urapuntja

“This painting is this country here, ‘Alpra’, Bush-plum country”.
Poly Ngala lives with her sister Kathleen Ngala, who also paints, at an outstation called Camel Camp which is not
far from Utopia. Poly is in her 70’s and started her career in batik, like many of the women in Utopia, before
venturing into painting. Poly often assisted her sister Kathleen and also the late Emily Kngwarrey with whom she
shared the same country. Arlparra is her country from her father’s side and her mother came from Ngwelay,
commonly known as Kurrajong Bore. Poly is a senior custodian of the Bush Plum Dreaming. Her sisters include
Kathleen Ngala, Maggie Ngala and Angelina Apwerle.
