Pumpuni Jilamara translates as 'good design or painting' and is how the artist refers to all 'good' paintings. The
origins of the imagery lie in the Tiwi traditions of Yirrinkiripwoja (decorative bodypainting) and the pukumani
ceremonial designs. All paintings are done in natural ochre collected locally on Melville Island.
