Pauline Sunfly Nangala Goowaree 2005 Acrylic on canvas 1200 x 800mm SOLD
Pauline has painted a story that belonged to her father, the late Sunfly Tjampitjin, a prominent Balgo painter.
This story occurs in country known as Goowaree, south of Balgo in the Great Sandy Desert. The prominent,
outer lines depict tali (sandhills), in which is found a warniri (rockhole) known as Mumbulbalang. In the
Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime), two Tjangala men came here to conduct some ceremony. In the upper, central portion,
they are shown sitting down, preparing a stone for cutting. The middle panel shows the marks that they cut
into each others bodies, while the lower portion shows the place where the two Tjangala's camped by the water.
