Richard Jungala King Australian Landscapes 2005
Acrylic on linen 1200 x 300mm X 5 Panels, 1200 x 1500mm $5500
As a child I would often travel with my father and uncles. They would point out significant sites and places that
they had visited. Many of these special places are varied and range from the deserts of central Australia across the
barkley tablelands to the Billabong country of the top end.
These paintings represent Wirly Wirly wind that sometimes caused havic in the many special places they my
family have camped, hunted and lived when I was a child.
The Wirly Wirly
Deep in our big red desert
Underneath the southern skies
Where the sun heats relentless and the thermals swirl and fly.
Its waiting for the weather
Its dancing for the rain
It herald the new season
that washes summer strain
The wirly is warrling
The walk about time is here
The tribe is moving higher
As high water is climing near.
The wirlys are our ancestors
with news of whats to come
and tell us to prepare ourselves
For when the rivers run.
