Bill Harney Gilling Gilling 2008
Acrylic on Galacia linen 540 x 570mm $650
Old lady Gilling Gilling. She put headdress Bilbilba designed like the wind - wavy headdress. She holds the law
and teaches the young girls. She has forehead band called Gulumbung. Beads and necklaces round neck, three
tribal marks called Yarlooru - two marks below the breast called Buderu. She was up on top of the high
mountain singing loud - singing so young girls could hear it and dancing at the same time. One hand up, one
half way up and elbow hard down and right hand up and down. Leg half kneeling down and dancing - clapping
legs at the same time . Dancing Joonba. The Gilling Gilling are all at Victoria River in Wardaman country in the
caves. They still live in the caves today and they come out at night time and make a lot of noise. They're
downstream from the pub and bridge at Victoria River. There's lots of white paint on the walls of those caves
and in the Creation time they're dancing and doing all sorts of tricks.
