Tilau Nangala Water Dreaming 2007
Acrylic on Belgian linen 610 x 915mm $2620
This story is related to the Water Creation or Dreaming. In this painting the circles represent sacred water or
rock hole sites. The lines connecting the circles are the creeks and the water flowing across the lands, or the
paths the Ancestors travelled. The U shapes are the women performing a ceremony or corroboree. The
Ancestors were honoured by Aboriginal people in corroborees performed at sacred sites where the spirit of the
Ancestors had become part of the landscape, or turned into entities such as rocks or trees. The background
design symbolises the landscape after the rains and the earth has been replenished with new growth. The rock
holes collect the water during the rains. Knowledge of where to find water was handed down from generation to
generation to ensure survival in the desert.
