Evelyn Pultara Yam Dreaming 2005
Acrylic on linen 2000 x 2000mm $15000
Evelyn share the Bush Yam (Antwelarr) story of her late Aunt and highly acclaimed indigenous artist, Emily
Kame Kngwarreye. An important part of the women's role in traditional Aboriginal culture is to collect bush
foods. The Bush Yams are collected by digging deep into the soil using sharp digging utensils either made from
carved wood or more commonly today, a metal crow bar. The Yams are exposed among the root system of the
yam bush. The yam seeds lay dormant until the rains come, upon which te vines regenerate.
