Nellie Nangala Collecting Bush Orange 2007 Acrylic on linen 610 x 914mm SOLD
This painting represents women (‘U’ shapes in the centre) having a ceremony in honour of the Bush Orange.
The yellow and green stripes either side symbolise the bush potato. These lines indicate ceremonial body paint
which the women paint on their breast. They would also decorate their chest, forearms and bodies with feathers
for ceremonies and dance with ceremonial objects including the nulla nulla’s (ceremonial dancing pole) and
coolamons (wooden dishes used to collect bushtucker). Next to the women, are their digging sticks and
