Pauline Sunfly Nangala Mingkurr 2000
Acrylic on canvas 1000 x 500mm $1500
This painting depicts some country and story for Pauline's father, the famous Balgo painter, Sunfly Tjampitjin.
Depicted here is a Tingarri (men's law cycle) story of two men who travelled the land, and cut the land in half with
their tjimari, or quartz knives. They held ceremonies and their dancing tracks are now seen in the rows of sand
hills surrounding this area. The four brown circles are tjumu, or soakwaters, while the cross is the hill cut by the
men. Their tracks are the sand dunes which dominate the landscape of this country to the south of Balgo.
