Brumby Newberry Untitled 2011 Acrylic on linen 755 x 1010mm SOLD Brumby teaches the Wanarn kids about his Fathers country. Brumby takes the kids out bush, hunting, walking and telling stories about the lands. He spends a lot of time with the kids to show them the old ways, the traditional ways of his father, mother and grandparents. “When I was a young fella my father taught me the same way”, now Brumby is following his father and passing down his knowledge of the lands to the next generation. Brumby shows the kids how to hunt with the spear, catching Malu/Kangaroo and wild turkeys. When he goes out bush, he shows the kids the old ways of hunting and tells the Jukulpa stories of the lands, continuing to pass down what he learnt from his father. “My father would walk outside of Wanarn country all the way to Patjarr”. It would take them 3 nights camping to walk to Patjarr. When they arrived they would stay one night in Patjarr , and then come back to Wanarn and rest. Now Brumby does the same trip with the young people from Wanarn, telling stories on the way and singing Tulku, keeping the culture strong by passing down his knowledge and Tjukurrpa stories of the lands. |
