Dennis Nelson Tingari Men 2008 Acrylic on linen 915 x 1220mm SOLD
This painting depicts a Tingari story which usually refers to groups of ancestors (mythical) men and women travelling across
the country. They are performing ceremonies and usually the men are given greater emphasis. Whilst they are travelling
these men and women perform different ceremonies, while carrying out various other deeds they create or modify features in
the landscape during the dreamtime period. The Tingari story is mostly of a secret nature.
In this painting Dennis said it refers to the men's part of this story. He has depicted the men which are indicated by the
spears, boomerangs and footprints. The circles refer to sacred sites in particular men's only sacred sites associated with
Tjikari. These circles may also refer to water or rock holes.
