Patrick Mung Mung Texas Country - Winnipa Springs Side 2002
Natural ochre & pigment on canvas 1200 x 900mm SOLD
This painting shows the gap that runs through between Winnipa Springs (the pink hill) and Loomoogoo Country (the large
red expanse).
Patrick has painted the gap that leads into Patrick's "daarn country" - his own camp, the place that he would come to during
the holiday time provided by the Station.
Patrick used to work on Texas Downs Station as a stockman and gardener. He was the last Aboriginal man to leave the
station in the seventies.
Patrick would take his holiday time in September, and his mob would rotate with another mob, so that there would always
be someone working the station. When Aboriginal people took their holidays they had to leave all their station belongings
behind ie shoes, clothing, blankets.
So when Patrick went out bush he lived very traditionally.
Patrick has also painted Brim Gorge in the background.
"If you follow this one up, it'll take you to Purnululu (The Bungle Bungles)" says Patrick.
