Emma Nungarai Yalka (Bush Onion) Womens Ceremony 2002
Acrylic on linen 410 x 1220mm SOLD
In this painting Emma depicts a women's ceremony in honour of Yalka. The U shapes symbolise the women and the other shapes depict bushtucker. The dotting designs represent bodypaint the women use on the breast, chest and arm area in ceremonies. It is an essential part of their lives to perform these ceremonies as they believe that they are in keeping with what is created on their land. Collecting bushtucker is a traditional role performed by aboriginal women.
