William Sandy Dingo Dreaming 2002
Acrylic on linen 1219 x 1219mm SOLD
This painting depicts a sacred site called Wingelina, a place where the Dingo ancestors of the 'Dreamtime' world creation period emerged from the underground and performed ceremonies and various other secret sacred rituals in which many aspects of the world were created and modified to become what it is today. Wingelina is a spiritual home of the Dingo. The events of the Dingo ancestors are honoured by the desert Aboriginal people in present day ceremonies performed near Wingelina. The black curvy lines represent the journey of the dingo ancestors. The background dotting represents the spinifex and sandhill country typical of the area.
