Dennis Nona Sarawai 2005
Etching on Hahnemuhle Paper: 620mm x 1080mm $900
Sarawai is a cloud that forms like a mushroom over the top of an island, and marks a very sacred occurrence. For hunters
who are out on isolated parts of the reef who see this cloud over a certain island, and families at home, it is an indication of a death in that place below the cloud and calls for respect. Hunters would then come in on their canoes and head back to
their homes to prepare for ceremonial funeral business. The cloud is for both men and women, each represented by the
symbols in the print, and the heads coming out of the cloud. This is all that is allowed to be said about that cloud.
