19 Allan Mansell Yolla Migration 2002
Etching on tin, framed, 1/4 SOLD
This print shows 5 mutton bird (yolla) chicks nestled together representing the time taken to mate, lay an egg, incubate it to hatching point and bring up the chicks to independence - about 5 months. The 7 birds with outstretched wings portray the 7 months of migration from Tasmania to the Arctic Circle and back and represent the land forms that they fly over - Tasmania, mainland Australia and the Japanese island archipalego. The birds lay a single egg as shown in the figure of 8 migration pattern. The rafting of the birds as they fly is shown as the ocean waves.
This image was chosen by Women Tasmania as one of 12 for their 'Tasmania - Aboriginal Artists' card pack.
