Jakayu Biljabu Minyi Puru 2011
Acrylic on linen 360 x 760mm $1330
These are all of the soaks where the Minyi Puru (seven sisters) hunted and collected seeds all around the land. Minyi Puru is
a Jukurrpa (dreamtime) story about seven sisters that travelled throughout the land running away from an old man. Within the
painting the orange colour represents the waru (fires) at the wantis (womens) camps. The circles are the wantis, the white
areas are the grinding stones that they used to grind seeds to make damper, making damper would take them a long time.
The yellow in the painting are the wiylki (seeds) that the wantis would collect, kurrun kampa is one of the seeds they would
collect.
One day the Minyi Puru had been out collecting the wiylki to make damper when they found the man asleep and snoring.
They were angry at him so they picked up all of the hot seeds and threw them into his face. It burnt his forehead and he had
to scrape it off his gorro (eyes). He yelled out Waranarra Kurnarra!!! (O my eyes, my eyes!!!). Then the girls flew away
and left him there.
