54 Yolla Migration 2002
Lithograph from stone block double print
Framed, 535 x 1165mm SOLD
This print shows 5 mutton bird (yolla) chicks nestled together representing the time taken to mate, lay an egg, incubate it to hatching point and bring up the chicks to independence about 5 months. The 7 birds with outstretched wings portray the 7 months of migration from Tasmania to the Arctic Circle and back and represent the land forms that they fly over Tasmania, mainland Australia and the Japanese island archipalego. The birds lay a single egg as shown in the figure of 8 migration pattern. The rafting of the birds as they fly is shown as the ocean waves. The adult birds are shown flying away from the young to encourage them to migrate.
