Valerie Napaltjari Martin Rock Wallaby Dreaming 2003
Acrylic on linen 605 x 455mm SOLD
In this painting the artist is telling us the story of the dance performed by herself and her family for the Rock
Wallaby Dreaming. The concentric circles in the corners are the sites where the wallabies live while the U-shapes
with the short lines are the women dancing with their digging sticks. The marks through the centre are the wallaby
tracks leading to a waterhole represented by the concentric circles. The dance is taking place in Valerie's father's
traditional country, named Yarrungkanyi, which is north-west of Yuendumu.
