Pirla Warna Warna

Pirla Warna Warna is where most Dreamings emerged. It is probably the most significant sacred site for Warlpiri
people. A long time ago the Emu, Dingo & Rainbow Snake Ancestors committed rape and pillage. They were
punished by the ancestors by being showered with fire. This was the creation and beginnings of the great Warlpiri
Fire Ceremony Chardi Warnpa. It is a ceremony for reconciliation. I am kirda (owner) for this ceremony for this
ceremony and this country. Pirla Warna Warna is approx 270 miles NW of Alice Springs in the Tanami Desert.
The goannas on the painting are my uncle and mother. My sister and I are the rainbow snake. The principal
dreamings are goanna, snake, emu and fire. A long time ago in Dreamtime the snakes were poisonous. During the
ceremony Chardi Warnpa they transformed into quiet pythons. We use the fat from both goanna and python for
healing. It is through the black headed python all of our songs come. This is a screenprint from an original piece
by me, Malcolm Jagamarra Maloney.
