Long Jack Phillipus Tjakamarra Old Man's Dreaming 2003 Acrylic on linen 1219 x 1219mm SOLD
The concentric circle in this painting represents a sacred site west of Papunya in which ceremonies and various
other deeds were performed by the ancestors of the desert Aboriginal people. These ancestors travelled the area in
the Dreamtime world-creation period and their ceremonies created and modified many aspects of the landscape, to
become what it is today.
The U shapes represent old men decorating themselves with body paint designs to perform for a ceremony. The
curvy lines adjoining the concentric circle are journey lines of people travelling and hunting between sites.
