Helicopter Tjungurrayi Tjiparitjarra 2005 Acrylic on linen 1000 x 1000mm SOLD
Helicopter has painted some of his country south west of Balgo, in the Great Sandy Desert. This country is known as Tjiparitjarra, named after the tjurrnu (soakwater) depicted in the centre of the painting. Helicopter was born in this country and travelled and hunted as a young man with his family, moving between the different tjurrnu. The majority of the painting represents the tali (sandhills) that dominate the country. The dot work between the tali depicts kantjilyi (bush raisin) which is commonly found here.
