Matjangka (Nyukana) Morris Mai Tjuta - Lota of Bushfood 2007 Acrylic on canvas (pre-primed) 1010 x 1365mm SOLD
Matjangka has painted Mai Tjuta lots of bushfood. Grass seeds such as Wangunu Native Woolley Butt, Kaltu
Kaltu edible native millet and wakati pigweed are included.
Mai Wiru Good Food, or bush tucker as it is referred to, is highly valued by the Aboriginal people of the Central
Desert region of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara/Yankuytjatjara Lands (far NW of South Australia). Most bush-foods
were gathered by women. Due to their availability in drought and high nutritious value, they were an important
part of the food source that sustained the indigenous people in their nomadic life. Many have a strong
mythological importance. These bush-foods are still gathered today and are the subject of many pieces of artwork.
