Mick Quilliam Generations 2011 Natural ochre & pigment on canvas 810 x 760mm SOLD
This Painting represents the way I was influence and encouraged to be proud of who I am. To find an inner
strength, to overcome life’s hurdles and believe in myself. It also reflects a personal passion to inspire and influence
the younger generation today to express their cultural connection through artistic expression.
The centre circle represents my generation and my connection to mother earth. The figures surrounding Mother
Earth represent our generations today taking the hand of our children and teaching them our ways so when they
grow up they can then take the hand of another. The four large outer circles symbolize the importance of our
present communities. Their connection to our past is represented by the smaller circles, which contain traditional
Tasmanian rock carving symbols of our ancestors. The winding path from past to present is surrounded by the sea.
